The Doom Patrol Is Separate From Titans Continuity

DC Universe is premiering Doom Patrol this coming Friday, February 15, and at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, we asked if the events of this series tie in to what we saw on Titans last year.

“There are elements that were present in the Titans ‘Doom Patrol’,” showrunner Jeremy Carver said, “but I think everyone is best suited coming into this Doom Patrol understanding that we have our own continuity and our own story. And if you come in with a fresh perspective, I think that’s the best way to view this Doom Patrol,” he said.

Doom Patrol will have April Bowlby reprising the role of Rita Farr from Titans; Matthew Bomer and Brendan Fraser continue to voice Negative Man and Robotman. Timothy Dalton takes over the role of The Chief. Follow @DoomPatrolTV on Twitter for more on the show!

Doom Patrol: Descriptions For The First Two Episodes

Doom Patrol will premiere February 15 exclusively on the DC Universe service, and they have made descriptions available for the first two episodes!

Hopefully we’ll have some photos soon.

Here are those descriptions:

Episode 1: “Pilot”

In the series premiere episode, the team – tired of being stuck in Doom Manor – decides to visit the local town while The Chief is away.  However, this seemingly harmless field trip leads to some grave consequences, including an encounter with the mysterious and powerful Mr. Nobody (series star ALAN TUDYK).

Episode 2: “Donkey Patrol”

Following Mr. Nobody’s capture of Niles Caulder and the destruction of Cloverton Ohio, The Doom Patrol investigate the mysterious albino donkey and discover it is a door to another universe, one where Mr. Nobody is in control. Cyborg aka Vic Stone (series star JOIVAN WADE), a part man/part machine hero from Detroit who has his own complicated relationship with Niles Caulder, joins the search.

Doom Patrol News: Matt Bomer Is Larry Trainor aka Negative Man

Matt Bomer has finally landed a big role in a DC project… and it’s not as Superman! (What gives?)

Brendan Fraser appeared at New York Comic Con prior to the Titans world premiere to announce that Matt Bomer (White Collar) has joined Doom Patrol as the voice of Negative Man, and he will appear as Larry Trainor in flashback scenes! Bomer surprised fans with a special video greeting from the show’s Atlanta sets.

Playing the bandaged Negative Man will be Matthew Zuk.

In addition to Fraser and Bomer, Doom Patrol stars Joivan Wade as Victor Stone/Cyborg, Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder/The Chief, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane and Alan Tudyk as Mr. Nobody. Read more about Doom Patrol here!

Filming Photos Reveal DC Universe’s Doom Patrol

Via “UberKryptonian” on Twitter, some photos have surfaced online from the Atlanta filming location of Doom Patrol, revealing our first looks at several characters!

These photos include Riley Shanahan as the man inside of Robotman, Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, April Bowlby as Elasti-Girl, and Dwain Murphy as Negative Man.

Atlanta has been home to several superhero and TV movie productions, so it’s almost not surprising that these actors were caught outside. Though… hopefully we’ll at least get red and white costumes for some of these folks eventually?

Doom Patrol is coming in 2019 to the DC Universe streaming service. Follow @DoomPatrolTV on Twitter for more updates as they become available!

Bruce Wayne’s Cousin To Fight The Doom Patrol

Alan Tudyk starred in the first and only DC Comics sitcom, Powerless, where he played Van Wayne, cousin of the Batman himself, Bruce Wayne. Now, he’s playing a more serious role as Deadline is reporting that he will be playing Mr. Nobody on Doom Patrol for the DC Universe streaming service.

Doom Patrol will spin out of the events of Titans.

Here’s how his character is described:

After exposure to unknown experiments by ex-Nazis in post-war Paraguay, the man formerly known as Eric Morden emerges as a living shadow able to drain the sanity of others as the enigmatic, and totally insane, Mr. Nobody.

Look for Doom Patrol in 2019.

Doom Patrol News: Brendan Fraser is Robotman

Deadline is reporting that Brendan Fraser will be playing Robotman/Cliff Steele in the upcoming Doom Patrol series for DC Universe.

Here’s how they describe the role:

A former race car driver, Cliff Steele was in a horrific accident that left his body uninhabitable. Cliff’s brain was saved by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder and he lives on in a powerful robotic body.

Jake Michaels was the actor cast to play Robotman in Titans; it will be interesting to see if the change in appearance will be explained or if it just won’t be tied together. April Bowlby who plays Rita Farr in Titans will be reprising her role for Doom Patrol.

Deadline notes that Brendan Fraser will provide the voice-over for Robotman and will appear in flashback scenes as Cliff Steele. The physical performance of Robotman on stage will be portrayed by Riley Shanahan.

Doom Patrol Casting News: Diane Guerrero Is Crazy Jane

Diane Guerrero of Orange is the New Black and Superior Donuts fame has landed the series regular role of Crazy Jane in the upcoming live-action Doom Patrol series for DC Universe.

Here’s how they officially describe the series:

Doom Patrol is a reimagining of one of DC’s strangest group of outcasts: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman and Crazy Jane. Led by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder they’re called into action by the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg. Banding together these rejects find themselves on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe.

Guerrero’s other credits include many episodes of Jane the Virgin. In addition to acting, Guerrero has written several books, including the recently released My Family Divided, and she is a sought-after activist and speaker, particularly in the areas of immigration.

Warner Bros. has released a description for the character which you can find below.

Crazy Jane is an unlikely hero suffering from the world’s most severe case of multiple personality disorder. Each of her 64 distinct personas manifest a different super power making Jane the Doom Patrol’s most powerful member…and also its most unstable.

Doom Patrol: Casting Breakdown For Crazy Jane

Doom Patrol is a spin-off of Titans that is also coming to the DC Universe streaming service, and we’ll be covering DP news here at TitansTV in the future as it comes closer.

Today, That Hashtag Show has details about the role of “Crazy Jane” which is being cast for the Doom Patrol series. The character first saw her introduction in the comics in Grant Morrison’s run as writer of the title.

In any event, they got a hold of a casting breakdown, and this is what Doom Patrol is looking for to play Kay Challis a.k.a. Crazy Jane:

Created by Grant Morrison and Richard Case, Crazy Jane first appeared in the DC Comics world in February 1989. Debuting in #19 of Doom Patrol Volume 2, Crazy Jane has been a famous member of the group ever since. She suffers from multiple personality disorder which was caused by the Dominator gene bomb which she was exposed to in the famous Invasion! storyline. Because of that event, all of her 64 personalities have their individual super ability.

Doom Patrol is headed to the DC Universe streaming service in 2019. You can get Doom Patrol updates @DoomPatrolTV on Twitter!
