Yes, Starfire Will Get A Comics-Accurate Costume On Titans

Almost every view that fans have gotten of Anna Diop as Kory a.k.a. Starfire on DC Universe’s Titans (premiering October 12 on DC Universe) has had the character in an outfit that many have said unkind things about. Even with that said, no official look has been released as Starfire in a comic-accurate costume.

ComicBook.com asked Diop about this and she did, indeed, confirm that she will have Starfire’s traditional look.

“As soon as I put it on, everyone was flipping out,” she said. “It’s awesome because it’s something that so many people have seen for so long and it means so much to people and this is the first time we’re bringing it to life, but you know — our story takes its time. It takes its time, it’s an origin story, so it takes its time in the characters coming to this place where you see them and the way that everyone’s always known. I hope that the audience can be patient with us and have fun with us. It’s a ride, and it’s a fun one.”

DC Universe Releases Titans Character Videos

DC Universe has released character videos for Robin (Brenton Thwaites), Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), Starfire (Anna Diop), and Raven (Teagan Croft), and we’re happy to see that if the early episodes are a bit on the overly dark side, there seems to be some levity to come. The Beast Boy video, in particular, is a lot of fun.

Titans is coming our way October 12, exclusively on the DC Universe subscription service.

New Titans Poster Art Features Some Familiar Looks

DC has released some new Titans poster art in anticipation of the October 12 launch on DC Universe.

While obviously some artistic license is taken, check it out: Starfire is orange! Beast Boy is green! F— Batman!

All is right in the world; well, except that Starfire is still in that awful outfit with the fur coat.

Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson/Robin, Anna Diop as Koriand’r/Starfire, Teagan Croft as Rachel Roth/Raven, and Ryan Potter as Garfield Logan/Beast Boy. The original series will be released weekly on the DC Universe platform beginning October 12.

Titans’ Anna Diop Calls Out Fan Racism & Rudeness After Pictures Surface

Some candid photos of Beast Boy (Ryan Potter), Raven (Teagan Croft), and Starfire (Anna Diop) “in costume” for Titans between takes of filming have leaked ahead of an official photo release…. no, you will not be seeing the pictures here, but to be fair, they were… not flattering.

In the last day, including on our TitansTV Facebook page, we’ve been getting some particularly rude comments, with some even taking it to a racist level. (One user that we called out even used the most offensive of those words.)

Sadly, some of that hate has also been projected toward the cast of the Titans show for the DC streaming service, and that actress Anna Diop addressed on her Instagram page (found here).

Here’s what she said.

To the ‘Titans’ fans:

Yesterday a photo of me on set leaked online. And it was unfortunate because fans have been waiting MONTHS for a photo of ‘Starfire’ and a sloppy (😐) photo of me on a curb in 15 degree weather is what they got instead 😂 For the sake of our incredible fans – I hated that this is the first picture people are seeing. It’s out of context and it’s a misrepresentation of the incredible character I get to play. And also a misrepresentation of the phenomenal production behind it all.

With that said – the hate speech that followed was deplorable. And though I am highly unbothered 💅🏿 I do want to use this as an opportunity to say that tearing people down is not something that I tolerate. For myself or anyone else. Too often social media is abused by some who find refuge in the anonymity and detachment it provides: misused as a tool to harass, abuse, and spew hatred at others. This is weak, sad, and a direct reflection of the abuser.

Racist, derogatory, and/or cruel comments have nothing to do with the person on the receiving end of that abuse. And because I know this – I’m unfazed 🙂 But for anyone out there who may not – I am here to remind you that whatever ugly and negative thing anyone ever chooses to say about you is always a reflection and revelation of themselves- it does NOT define you, and it certainly does NOT make you any less perfect than you are – Be you! Stay beautiful! Live breezy 🙂 As always,

Much love 💕

In over 20 years of covering comic book television, we have never experienced this kind of commentary, so: Cut it out. We agree, the costumes as they looked unofficially looked pretty bad. We here at TitansTV have nothing to do with it, though. And hopefully we’ll get some better pictures for a nicer idea of what we can expect. After all, Robin, Hawk and Dove looked so good….

Our thanks to Anna Diop for speaking out, though we apologize profusely for the childishness and racism of certain fans.

Now, DC/WB? Some official photos please?

Is Jason Todd Coming To DC’s Titans?

Unconfirmed reports say the title of the seventh episode of the live-action Titans for the DC streaming service may have a familiar name… “Jason Todd.”

For those who know DC Comics lore, Jason Todd was the second Robin who replaced Dick Grayson in the role. The character was killed off in 1988 as part of a fan call-in; eventually, he resurfaced as the Red Hood.

In any vent, if this title is true, this could be very cool news for fans of the DC Universe…

The title is one of several purported titles for the first seven episodes, which might imply episode-by-episode introductions of each Titan on a slow basis. Here are those titles (subject to change, of course):

#1.1 “Titans” (Pilot)
#1.2 “Hawk and Dove”
#1.3 “Starfire”
#1.4 “Rachel”
#1.5 “The Doom Patrol”
#1.6 “The Messenger”
#1.7 “Jason Todd”

We are assuming “The Messenger” is not a reference to Anna Diop’s old TV show. 😉

UPDATE: It appears that Jason Todd may be played by actor named Curran Walters!

Thanks to Andy for the tip!

Anna Diop Is Starfire In DC’s Titans

Starfire has been found for the upcoming live-action Titans TV series that will launch as part of a DC Comics streaming service.

Cast in the role is Anna Diop (The Messengers, Quantico, 24: Legacy). Here’s how Deadline described the character when they broke the news:

Starfire (aka Koriand’r) is an alien princess from a warrior planet who seeks asylum on Earth. A no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners stranger on our world, she has the ability to shoot energy bolts and fly. Searching for her place on Earth, she’ll come into contact with the Titans.

She joins Teagan Croft who has already been casted as Raven.

Titans Live-Action Series: Character Breakdowns Surface

That Hashtag Show apparently has casting breakdowns for the four leads of the upcoming Titans show for DC’s streaming service. Of course, the character breakdowns have fake names, but we all know who they are. (If you don’t, John Crossland = Dick Grayson, Sarah = Raven, Casey = Starfire, Jax = Beast Boy).

Already this is sounding so much better than the first iteration of the project…

[John Crossland] Male, late 20s-early 30s, Caucasian. Equal parts charm and impenetrability, John is a cop. He has a nice smile, tired eyes and a cool, distant manner. However, when provoked, his eyes are so lethal “they drain a man of every last bit of spleen.” John is haunted by the murder of his family. Unbeknownst to those around him, he is also a vigilante. In the shadows, he fights with the commitment and conviction of an artist, the brutal grace of a dancer. Mentally and physically, he is covered in a map of scars. And though he fights to escape his past, it is often a losing battle…SERIES LEAD

[SARAH] Female, Mid teens, Open Ethnicity. Troubled, bullied, often scared but unwilling to show it, Sarah is a loner more comfortable hiding in her hoodie than making friends. Haunted by a dark force inside her, Sarah experiences violent episodes that she cannot understand or control. She is also plagued by recurring nightmares that lead her across the country in search of help…SERIES REGULAR

[Casey] Female, 20s, Open ethnicity. Casey is a tall, stunning woman, her beauty so magnificent it’s almost inhuman. Elegant, refined and mysterious, she is on the hunt to discover who is trying to kill her and why. And those after her are in for a surprise because she’s more deadly than anyone they’ve ever encountered…SERIES REGULAR

[JAX] Male, Mid-late teens, Open Ethnicity, Asian preferred. Funny and charming, this amateur thief’s humor hides his insecurities and past pain. Not the toughest kid on the streets, he’s learned to survive in the world with his wit and quick-thinking…SERIES REGULAR
